Events and Programs
Building our Community
Lev Modiin offers a range of educational, social and community events. Our goal is to provide English-speaking individuals and families opportunities to meet, grow, learn and network. Family Chanukah and Purim parties, and a Tu B’Shvat dinner help bring holidays alive for those who wish to share them with new friends. We arrange monthly guest lecturers, bringing some of the world’s most renowned speakers to our community. Educational workshops, such as our popular Shlissel Challah baking event, are a backbone for the types of services we wish to provide for the Anglo population of Modiin. Home groups, music fests, and an evening at Annabe Park are programs held in 2013. Let’s see what exciting events there will be in 2014!
Who We Are
- Rabbi Elazar GrunbergerFounder and Senior Director
Born in Ohio and raised in El Paso, Texas, by age 17 Elazar Grunberger was the youngest Top 40 professional radio DJ in the United States. After attending the University of Texas at El Paso, the former DJ arrived in Jerusalem in 1976 and never looked back. Nine years later, Rabbi Grunberger received rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Noach Weinberg and Rav Nissim Karelitz, and that was just the beginning.
When Rabbi Elazar Grunberger made aliya with his family in September 2011, he brought over 30 years of experience at building Jewish communities with him. Rabbi Grunberger spent over 25 years as the Director of Aish HaTorah St. Louis. During that time, Rabbi Grunberger also served as the Rav of the U. City Shul and the Beth HaMedresh HaGodol Sha’arei Chesed in St. Louis for fifteen years.
With tireless energy matched by his passion for the Jewish People, Rabbi Grunberger serves as Senior Director of Lev Modiin as well as one of the Managing Directors of the Aish HaTorah World Center in Jerusalem. He and his wife Rebbetzin Brocha are parents to ten wonderful children with adorable grandchildren residing on both sides of the Atlantic. Today Rabbi Grunberger lives in Modiin with his family where he tries to find an hour to play tennis once in a while.
- Vickie LecyAdministrative AssistantVickie Lecy began working as a volunteer for Aish HaTorah in St. Louis in 1994 after having attended a Discovery Seminar. She was a single mother raising two young sons with little time to even think about anything other than making ends meet and carpooling to the next soccer game. After attending the Discovery Seminar, however, she began going to Torah classes during her lunch hours and almost every evening. In 1997, Vickie became a regular employee of Aish St. Louis where she worked with Rabbi Grunberger for the next 9 years. She married her husband, David, in 1998 and together they made aliyah in 2006. The Lecys have lived in Kochav Yaakov and Ramat Beit Shemesh.
- Rabbi Ari GreenDirector of Programming
Rabbi Ari Green grew up in Toronto, Canada in a family of rabbis and professional musicians. He first learned to play guitar at fourteen and hasn’t stopped since.
After moving to Ramat Beit Shemesh with his family at age fourteen, Ari attended high school in Israel but returned to the United States for college. He hit Bridgeport, Connecticut to spend several years studying in the Yeshiva Gedola of Bridgeport under Rav Simcha Bunim Berger as well as earning an undergraduate degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in pre-med.
Rabbi Ari returned to Israel in 2009 to study at the Mir Yeshiva and the Jerusalem Kollel rabbinical program. He received rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Yitzchak Berkovits in 2012 and has taught in several yeshivas and outreach programs including Yeshivat Ruach Chaim, ZAJ, and Jeff Seidel’s Student Center at Hebrew University. He lives in Modiin with his wife, Tehila, and their two children where he continues to compose music and rock out.
- Rabbi Ari Kayser
Born and raised in London, England, Ari Kayser completed his BSc in Economics at the University College London before making his way to Israel to learn in yeshiva. Along the way he visited over thirty countries, wrote a lot of poetry, and attained certification as a professional cocktail bartender.
In 2008 Rabbi Ari co-founded DAJUS Torah, a not-for-profit platform for Jewish creative media expression. Inquisitive Imagery, a poetry journal featuring established and emerging artists, was initiated by Rabbi Ari soon after. With events incorporating tai chi, meditation, and classical Torah study, DAJUS also developed award-winning video series Cruisin' with DAJUS, a cutting-edge guided tour of the beautiful landscape of Israel, and the online Achdus Photography Galleryexploring the concept of Jewish unity from behind the lens.
Rabbi Ari received rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Yitzchak Berkovits in 2012. He lives in Modiin with his wife Gabrielle and their two children.
- Rebbetzin Brocha Grunberger
Rebbetzin Brocha Grunberger is the youngest of four children born to Holocaust survivors. Despite everything that they had gone through, Brocha’s parents wanted her to have a Jewish education so much that they sent her from Rochester, New York to Cleveland, Ohio. That heroic commitment to Jewish values and continuity became the cornerstone of their daughter’s outlook ever since.
Brocha graduated from Yavne Teachers Seminary in Cleveland under the direction of Rebbetzin Chaya Usband, going on to tutor and counsel at Neve Yerushalayim in 1980. After marrying her husband and moving to St. Louis, Rebbetzin Brocha served as a teacher at Bais Yaakov St. Louis as well as teaching classes for adults, teens, and learning individually with community members for 27 years.
Rebbetzin Brocha’s genuine humility and caring touch everyone who meet her. The proud mother of ten children and many wonderful grandchildren, she lives in Modiin with her husband and family.
- Rebbetzin Tehila Green
Tehila Green grew up in a family of thirteen in Toronto, taught herself to play guitar at sixteen, and made aliya in 2007. She has run a gan since 2009. A great listener, a go-getter, and an adventurer, she and Rabbi Ari took three weeks out to go fishing and camping in Norway together while expecting their first!
Today Rebbetzin Tehila loves sharing her warm home and heart with guests around her Shabbat table. Tehila lives in Modiin with her husband, Rabbi Ari, and their two children, in a sunny house where spontaneous guitar jam sessions are part of the atmosphere.
